I worked on the Profiles team for 3 years on Facebook to help users express themselves and connect & engage with others. Profiles attract over a billion monthly active users and it was a joy to build for such a large audience.

When I joined Facebook, the company was building out a new version of www.facebook.com called “Comet” and I got to help build this new version of Profile from the ground up!
☄️ Comet moved the website from XHP to a modern stack, using React and Relay/GraphQL.

Occasionally, I also built features for mSite (m.facebook.com) and the mobile app (iOS, Android).

💻 I helped build and improve a bunch of different Profile features, including:
  • Profile Header (profile photos, cover photo, name, facepile alignment)
  • Profile Banners (upsells, prompts, recommendation units)
  • Action Bar (actions on a Profile like “Add to story” and “Edit profile”)
  • Profile curation and editing (Featured Highlights collections, and more!)
  • Profiles in Groups & Professional Profiles
  • Logged Out Profiles
  • Profile Frames campaign infrastructure → used for COVID-19 and Voting campaigns!

🎩 I wore a lot of hats:
  • Intern Manager & Mentor, Rotational Engineer Mentor: mentoring and managing folks to succeed as early-mid career engineers.
  • Profile Web Performance Lead: leading projects to make Profile load and respond faster.
  • Profile Web Better Engineering Lead: making Profile infra better for the team and org.
  • Profile Foundations Tech Lead: orchestrating the engineering team’s roadmap and leading project direction and execution.
  • Part-Time PM/Designer/Data Scientist: writing product decision docs, design docs, and data analyses once in a while!

After three years, I decided it was time for something new!
